How many liters equal a quarter cup? There are 4,227 cups in a liter. One cup is 8 fluid ounces, one liter is 33.8 fluid ounces.
Cups and liters both measure the amount of liquid, so whether you need to know how many cups are in a liter or water, oil, or pot bottles, there are always 4.3 glasses in a liter!
A liter is the closest measure to a quart in imperial measures. If you don’t need exact measurements, round to 4 cups and add ¼ cup to make one liter. If you need ½ liter, measure 2 cups and 2 tablespoons.
What Is A Cup?
The “cup” is an Imperial measurement. The standardized cup measure is quite new. It was introduced by Director of the Boston Cooking School Fannie Farmer in 1896 in her book “The Boston Cooking School Cook Book”. Before that, it was normal for recipes to use terms like a handful of rice or a generous portion of sugar. Now I know someone who can cook like that. They just pour in the ingredients and cook always look amazing. For the rest of us, Fannie Farmer’s standardization is a great service.
What Is A Liter?
“Liter” is a metric unit of measurement. The liter was introduced first time in France in 1795 after the republican government overthrew the monarchy and all the trappings associated with that government, and the metric system began. In 1901, an international agreement was reached to redefine the liter as the area occupied by 1 kg of pure water.
While the rest of the world has switched to the metric system, we still use pints, quarts, and gallons, so here’s a quick conversion chart to help with metric conversions.
- 1 cup = 0.236 liters
- 1 pint = 0.47 liters
- 1 quart = 1.06 liters
